I am dedicating this blog as a platform to share my understandings of Business Analytics in terms of people, process and technology.
Big data analytics. Predictive analytics. Reporting. Text mining. Business intelligence. These terms circulate around our industry and fall under a blanket category called Business Analytics.Business Analytics software generally include functionality such as Performance Management, BI reporting and Data Warehouse platform that access, transform, store, analyze, model, deliver and track information to enable fact-based decision-making and extend accountability by providing all decision-makers with the right information, at the right time, using the right technology. In a corporate (or enterprise world) typical Analytics domain (business areas) are -
- Sales and Marketing
- Human Resources
- Finance
- Supply Chain Management
- Order Management
- Project Management
- IT Operations
Software vendors in this space use different terminology to describe their product offering. Recently Oracle re-branded its offering using the "Business Analytics" term. Take a look at their website - Oracle Business Analytics According to Oracle the offerings are divided into three categories -
- Oracle Business Intelligence Foundation Suite
- Enterprise Performance Management
- BI Analytics Applications
Business Analytics is a very broad term. From an architectural perspective there are several architectural views of Business Analytics namely Conceptual view, Business view, Technology View and then there is deployment view. In my next blog my will attempt to explore these architectural views.
Until next, cheers!
